This is a guest post by Mark Shaw Cornwall is a county of many delights, with a stunning coastline, many pretty towns and villages, some great beaches and a rich and interesting history full of tales of smuggling and wrecking. Best of all though there’s some truly great scuba diving to be had in Cornwall, with something fantastic for everyone to discover, from absolute beginners through to experienced divers. But, with over 300 miles of coastline you’ll need to know where to go to find the best of it! So don’t worry we’re here to help – whether you want to explore wrecks, or discover new and exciting sea life we’re sure there’s a great diving location perfect for you. Here are our favourite spots in the county… Falmouth Cornwall Divers is a well-established company based in the centre of the vibrant harbour town of Falmouth. They offer the opportunity to get out on dive trips of varying lengths in and around the Falmouth Bay area. The Bay itself makes for ideal diving for novices as there are some great shallow wreck dives available and the company also offer trips to the Manacles, one of Cornwall’s most famous dive areas. This spot is ideal for all abilities as it’s easy to pick many varying dive depths. Not only is Falmouth a great little town to visit, but Cornwall Divers also have a great diving supplies shop and a knowledgeable team who are always happy to help out. Mevagissey
Between St Austell and Mevagissey on the south coast of Cornwall you’ll find the Sal Diving Company. Run by diving experts Warren and Tamsin Sallis this is an excellent dive company who can offer a range of diving opportunities, with something for everyone from beginners to experienced divers. The Sal Diving Company also offers a very unique experience: they have a traditional Standard Dress Dive Suit (the kind with brass helmet, lead boots and a man on shore pumping air) and offer you the opportunity to have a go with it! Not for the feint hearted but sure to excite diving enthusiasts who are also keen on the history of the sport too.
The Lizard Peninsula
Kennack Diving are based on the beautiful Lizard Peninsula, Britain’s most southerly promontory. They offer a full range of diving opportunities and the chance to see a whole range of sea life: look out for dolphins, basking sharks, seals and some wonderful reefs, home to lots of smaller fish and sea life species. As well as dive trips they also offer an extensive range of diving courses, with everything from beginners classes to courses for those wishing to become instructors. They are a friendly team and we’re sure you’ll be glad if you decide to go with Kennack Diving! So if we’ve managed to tempt you, there’s a whole range of places you could stay on your trip to Cornwall: whether you choose north Cornwall cottages, B&B’s in Penzance, a luxury Hotel on the Roseland, or even decide to take a look at Rock cottages, we are sure you won’t be disappointed! So get planning and you could be exploring Cornwall’s fantastic underwater world before you know it!
