#DoNotFeedTheFish is the third action point of the Green Fins IYOR 2018 social media campaign. Research by the World Tourism Organization found that in 2016, nature-based and adventure tourism was growing annually by 10-30 percent, accounting for up to 25 percent of the world’s tourist market. It is clear that nature tourism is big business and that wildlife experiences, including marine tourism, are an extremely popular around the world.
However, currently there are no global standards of practice for wildlife tourism attractions. It’s up to you to say no to feeding the fish, ultimately ending the unnatural and potentially deadly practice. Are you aware of the extent of the problem? Why is it so popular? What can you do?
