Check out a record-breaking school of mobula rays off the coast of Baja, possibly the largest school ever filmed!

Every year, tens of thousands of mobula rays aggregate off the coast of Baja California in the Sea of Cortez, offering a brilliant display of their massive numbers.

They breach for reasons unknown, spectacularly leaping out of the water and flapping their pectoral fins in the air.

Though it’s hard to tell in this clip, the rays are quite large, likely weighing over a ton and reaching a width of up to 17 feet (5.2 m). This is also likely the largest school of rays ever caught on film, captured for National Geographic’s “Untamed Americas.”
