The MT Haven, formerly the Amoco Milford Haven was a crude-oil carrier. It infamously went down in 1991 while loaded with one million barrels of crude oil. The ship exploded, caught fire and subsequently sank off the coast of Genoa, Italy, killing six crew members. Up to 60,000 tons of oil spilled into the Mediterranean, fouling coastlines from Italy to southern France for the next 12 years.
The Haven is the largest shipwreck in the Mediterranean. It lies at a depth of 108 to 272 feet (33 to 83 m) off the coast of Genoa.
