Manta rays are truly one of the ocean’s gentle giants; if you’ve ever had the chance to dive — or even snorkel — with one, you know how special the experience can be. But mantas are in danger. We are losing thousands of them every year to fishermen, who hunt them for their gill rakers or kill them as bycatch when fishing for something else. In Southeast Asia, some people believe that the gill rakers have medicinal benefits, and so will pay a high price for medicine made with the substance, even though there’s no proof whatsoever of any health benefits. In this video, we hope to educate viewers and promote conservation of one of the ocean’s most magnificent animals.
