Filmed by Prince Rupert Adventure Tours, these orcas beached themselves while they were hunting for seals. These orcas hunt right up onto a sandbar to get seals. Most often, they’re carried back out to deeper water when the next wave comes in, but occasionally they get stranded for longer periods of time – especially if the tide goes out.
These orcas were monitored during the low tide that stranded them on a sandbar, and if you watch the video you’ll hear them even responding to the people that speak to them.
Eventually, the tide came back in and allowed the orcas to safely get back out to sea.
