A drone pilot recently caught some unique footage just off Long Beach, California. If you watch closely at around 15 seconds in, you’ll see a mother orca with a calf underneath her. On the mother’s left pectoral fin is the body of a recently killed blue shark. It’s thought that orcas do this to teach their young how to feed themselves. These offshore orcas are rarely captured on film at all, let alone displaying this rare behavior.
