On Saturday and Sunday December 15-16th 2012, a group of professional divers and their support team attempted and set a new World Record: The world deepest underwater Christmas tree.


After nearly one month of preparation, assembling the dive team, getting sponsorships and support from various organizations and groups it was time to establish the record!

The team meet on the morning Saturday, December 15th 2012 in Tulamben, Bali and over the course of 2 dives they brought down the concrete base and the artificial Christmas tree to a depth of 30.5 meters were it was assembled. Christmas balls handmade from recycled materials by refugees and glow sticks were attached to decorate the tree.

On Sunday morning, the team took the decorated tree from 30 meters to 37.5 meters where the new world record was established.

There the dive team took several pictures and our team photographers and videographer documented the whole process.

Human Rights – Freedom of religion and thought

The project had two primary goals; firstly to establish a new world record and get it officially recognized by Guinness World Records. Secondly the team encourage others to respect human rights and freedom of religion and thought.

More than 15 professional divers participated in the project.

We also received support from Divemasters Bali, Aqualung, Bali Scuba Masters, Bali Crystal Divers,  Amnesty International, UNHCR, and several other groups.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2013

After establishing the record, the team brought the Christmas Tree up to 18 meters and set it on the wreck of the USAT Liberty, a popular Balinese dive site. The tree will remain there until January 3rd 2013 for everyone to enjoy and see.

We hope that other divers will be inspired by what we did and team up to break our record in the future.
